Obedience class Descriptions Basic 1 Obedience The goal in the Basic 1 (Good Manners) class is to instruct handlers to teach their dogs commands and skills that will help the dogs become well-behaved companions. Emphasis is placed on developing a positive relationship between dog and handler, incorporating the use of motivation and praise. All exercises are done on leash. Basic 2 Obedience The goal in the Basic 2 class is to help handlers build on the foundation established in Basic 1 by improving the reliability of responses from the dog under a variety of challenging conditions. All \"walking\" or \"heeling\" exercises are done on leash. Basic 3 Obedience The goal in this class is to help the dog and handler become a highly effective team and to prepare for the AKC Novice routine. The handler/dog team should demonstrate a positive relationship, which should be reflected in the team performance of the exercises. Heeling - Novice Foundation This class is for all those handlers who would like to improve their dog heeling skills for competition. This will be a \"working\" class so come prepared to train your dog. Bridge between Beginner Novice and Novice This class will include new rules for beginner novice and novice. How to do exercises and how to train your dog to attain the Novice title or CD. This class will work on footwork, scoot sits, heeling, quarter turns, etc. Run-throughs - Beginner Novice in January This is a 3 week class, preregistration required $20.00 members / $30.00 non-members Foundation Heeling, Part 2 This class is for dogs who want to improve their heeling scores in competition. Must have taken Heeling 1, or have the foundation skills required. Instructor approval necessary. Learning and Enjoyment for Adult Rescues Now (L.E.A.R.N.) Just as adult humans learn differently than babies, adult dogs learn differently than puppies. This is especially true for adult rescue dogs, many of whom receive minimal socialization and/or training before finding their forever homes. The L.E.A.R.N. class is specially designed for these dogs! We begin by helping you understand how your dog learns, how to help them relax, and how to help them focus on you. In addition, we use somewhat different approaches to those used in our Basic 1 class to teach basic commands such as sit, down, heel, and stay. Each dog/handler team is encouraged to learn at their own pace, and we celebrate every success, no matter how small! Proofing The proofing class is for dogs competing or getting ready to compete in obedience or rally obedience.Your dog must thoroughly know the exercises before you can proof it.The teacher will want to know ahead of time what you will set up for your dog.For more info call Diane on 513-772-3340. Advanced Novice An obedience class for those who would like to prepare their dogs for competing in AKC and UKC obedience trials. This class will give you and your dog the foundation needed to prepare for competition. There will be a lot of one on one help for each student. Ring Prep This class will focus on smoothing the transition from training to showing by teaching our dogs what their job is as they pass thru the distraction gauntlet of waiting for their turn, crowds of other exhibitors and their dogs, the ring stewards, the judge\'s table with enticing items on it, the approach of a judge with a clipboard, the removal of the leash, their handler\'s ring nerves, and setting up for the first exercise. The goal is to have the focus and attention that you have in training happen in a trial instead of entering the ring and feeling like you have a different dog. This ring prep is beneficial for dogs of all levels, from those that are already actively showing to those that won\'t be hitting the ring for another year. Class format: class will be split into working and non working teams so that the non working handlers may be distractions for the working teams. All dogs must be able to be crated when it is not their working time. Min students-8, Max 16. Pre-requisite: dogs should have some idea that focus/eye contact is rewardable and be able to be crated when not working (crate room or bring your own). Utility Problem Solving This is a problem solving mini private lesson type class. Two or three people get a chance to work at every session and the others can ask questions. It is for people who are showing or who want to show in Open and Utility but are having problems that they don\'t know how to overcome. This class is being taught by Amy Langhorst and Robin Clark, both seasoned exhibitors, who will work together to coach and advise, and to come up with a plan for getting the dog/handler teams into the ring where they can be successful. Happy Heeling Food:Toys:Focus:FUN Have fun teaching your dog to heel. Whether you plan to do obedience or rally if your dog is happy and giving you everything he has you will have a more accurate working partner. Learn how to use food and toys and play and how to wean away from them. Learn how to use body language to que your dog for changes. Learn how to use fun corrections for lack of attention! Make heeling make sense to your dog ! No prior heeling experience required. This class is being taught by member Jackie Krieger.  In the past she has shown and won with Papillions and Dalmations in obedience competitions. This should be a fun class. Contact Diane Carr with any questions. 513-772-3340 Retrieve Class This class is for those that want to teach their dog to take, hold and carry a dumbbell or any object you choose! This class will be a shaped retrieve using a clicker or positive markers. Beg/Sub/Pre Novice IntroductionThis class is intended for folks who need a bit more instruction to help them go from Basic 3 to the obedience competition ring for the first time. It will focus on Beginner Novice, Pre-Novice, Sub-Novice and Novice obedience exercises (group stay participation at the end of class is optional). Students will enter the ring based on the posted running order and do the exercises individually (just like at a show), and will get feedback and training help customized to their needs. Working one at a time will create significant down time. But this gives you and your dog practice with waiting your turn and being ready to enter the ring when called and you can learn by watching others and hearing the feedback and advice they are getting. During the down time you may practice behaviors of your choice outside the ring or crate your dog. Instruction will be given on how to solve each individual\'s training issues using force free methods and positive reinforcement, as well as what you need to know to compete in each class, and how to fill out an entry form. This class welcomes the folks that are happy with a 170 Q as well as the folks that strive to get perfect scores and everyone in between.Class limit: 8 dogsBeginner Novice:1.
