Obedience class Descriptions

Basic 1 Obedience
The goal in the Basic 1 (Good Manners) class is to instruct handlers to teach their dogs commands and skills that will help the dogs become well-behaved companions. Emphasis is placed on developing a positive relationship between dog and handler, incorporating the use of motivation and praise. All exercises are done on leash.

Basic 2 Obedience

The goal in the Basic 2 class is to help handlers build on the foundation established in Basic 1 by improving the reliability of responses from the dog under a variety of challenging conditions. All "walking" or "heeling" exercises are done on leash.

Basic 3 Obedience

The goal in this class is to help the dog and handler become a highly effective team and to prepare for the AKC Novice routine. The handler/dog team should demonstrate a positive relationship, which should be reflected in the team performance of the exercises.

Heeling - Novice Foundation

This class is for all those handlers who would like to improve their dog heeling skills for competition. This will be a "working" class so come prepared to train your dog.

Puppy Bridge to Obedience

Open to dogs 1 year and younger. Prior enrollment in Puppy Kindergarten is recommended, but not required. We will focus primarily on loose leash walking and beginner heeling. There will also be targeting exercises taught with a clicker. Your dog can learn to touch your hand or a touch stick for movement control, and touch a mat (go to mat). This is also an opportunity to discuss some of the adolescent issues that arise as your puppy matures.

Run-throughs - Beginner Novice in January

This is a 3 week class, preregistration required
20.00 members
30.00 non-members

Foundation Heeling, Part 2
This class is for dogs who want to improve their heeling scores in competition. Must have taken Heeling 1, or have the foundation skills required. Instructor approval necessary.
